Terms of Reference

Mandate

The mandate of this committee is to produce a discussion paper to facilitate dialogue among the membership of the CSPCP regarding the proposal for the CSPCP to pursue formal subspecilaty status for palliative medicine.

 

The committee shall not make recommendations with respect to the proposal per se, but may recommend specific steps to further this discussion within the Society.

 

Membership

Committee co-chairs will be appointed by the President of the CSPCP.  The committee will be co-chaired by two CSPCP members, one each belonging to the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Additional core members of the committee are recommended to include:

  • A physician who practices palliative medicine part-time (may be a member of the CSPCP Committee of Part Time Palliative Medicine Physicians).
  • A representative from the CSPCP Executive Committee.
  • A representative of the CFPC and RCPSC's Conjoint Committee on the accreditation of programs offering added competency in Palliative Medicine.

Operations

Membership on the committee is voluntary.  The CSPCP will provide direct logistical support including access to an administrative assistant and funding for teleconferences.  Additional resources may be provided to the committee at the discretion of the Executive.

 

Time Frame

The committee shall table its discussion document at the CSPCP's Annual General Meeting in November 2007. The Terms of Reference for the committee shall be reviewed at that time.
