Pediatric Palliative Care Education Subcommittee

The mandate of the Subcommittee for Pediatric Palliative Care Education is to:

a) collaborate on a national basis to establish subspecialty training programs for pediatric palliative care*
b) determine human resource requirements for clinical service provision, teaching and research for pediatric palliative care
c) to advocate for the number of individuals needed to augment and sustain programs at a viable level, including both physician and allied health resources

Activity 2020/2021:

  • Major focus for the year has been national networking and collaboration regarding preparation of applications for Pediatric Palliative Medicine Royal College subspecialty Residency programs (applications due Fall 2020)
  • Initial program applying for accreditation include University of British Columbia, University of Toronto and University of Ottawa
  • Some parallel planning due to plan for Royal College role out of conversion to Competence By Design
  • Advocating for increased pediatric representation/consultation to Royal College Specialty Committee in Palliative Medicine
  • Thank you to Dr. Vadeboncoeur who previously chaired this committee and stepped down in 2020

  • Goals for 2021/2022:

  • Completion and accreditation for initial programs applying for Pediatric Palliative Medicine Royal College subspecialty Residency programs
  • Explore national academic half-day for pediatric palliative medicine subspecialty residents
    *Pediatric palliative care education at the undergraduate level is the responsibility of the CSPCP Undergraduate Education Committee.
